1987 - Bronxville voters defeat a school bond referendum so local parents help raise funds to replace the track and provide auditorium renovations
Late 1980s-early 90's - NY State aid for public schools starts to decline
1991 - The parent fundraisers, led by Marcia Lee, work with then Superintendent, Bill Greenham and Drew Quale, a member of the Board of Ed, to create a more permanent vehicle for raising philanthropic dollars to undertake projects that the District budget couldn’t cover
1992 - An anonymous $100,000 gift helps kick off a fundraising campaign led by village resident Si Ford. BSF is incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and a board and committees are established. A mission statement is drafted. A process to solicit and review grant applications from teachers, administrators, parents, students and Bronxville citizens is instituted under the initiative of Marilynn Hill and Adrienne Smith.
Mid 1990's - The Foundation launches its Alumni Newsletter and creates the Alumni Brick Walk
2001 - A grant of $464,000 outfits the school's new computer labs. BSF has backed most of the District's major technology projects
2006 - The Foundation and the community raise $1.7 million for the Chambers Field turf project
2007 - First annual Katie Welling Memorial Run/Walk raises funds for the Foundation
2012 - New York State imposes a tax cap on municipalities and public school districts that strictly limits increases in property tax to the lower of the inflation rate or two percent, putting further pressure on the District’s budget. This makes the work of BSF as vital as it was when it was first founded
2014 - The BSF funded extensive technology initiatives across all three schools, including grants for Chromebooks, Mac Laptops, and iPads and related professional development and training for teachers
2019 - The Foundation funded the construction of the Design & Innovation Center which added roughly 1,100 square feet in new learning space at the school for innovative STEM work
2020 - In response to the pandemic, the Foundation funded numerous grants that enabled the school to reopen safely, technologically upgrade classrooms for hybrid learning, and assist teachers with important curriculum development and training to help prepare for all possible learning scenarios
2021 - The Foundation celebrates its 30th Anniversary.
2024 - Over its history, BSF has made 916 grants totaling more than $13.3 million that have touched every aspect of the school
